A study released by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese) indicates that a Curitiba resident earning the minimum wage needs to work 101 hours and 11 minutes to buy the basic food basket in February.
The same study indicates that last month, the minimum wage needed to support a family of four should have been R$ 7.164,94 or 4,42 times the minimum wage of R$ 1.621.
In February 2026, the average time needed to acquire the products in the basic basket, in the 27 capitals surveyed, was 93 hours and 53 minutes, higher than in January, when it was 93 hours and 47 minutes.
In Curitiba, the percentage of the net minimum wage spent to purchase the basket products for one adult was 49,72%.
In February 2026, the price of Curitiba’s basic basket fell by -0,33% compared with January and cost R$ 745,56. Compared with February 2025, the total value of the basket decreased by -0,04%. In the year to date, it rose 1,04%.
Over the past 12 months, increases were recorded in six of the 13 products: ground coffee (7,15%), potato (4,71%), French bread (4,59%), banana (4,44%), prime beef (4,10%) and tomato (0,85%). The products that had price decreases were: agulhinha rice (-35,52%), black beans (-31,86%), whole milk (-11,95%), butter (- 4,48%), wheat flour (-3,46%), soybean oil (-3,00%) and refined sugar (-1,54%).
