A survey by the municipal program Disque Economia, carried out on March 9, shows that the prices of basic products can vary significantly among supermarkets in Curitiba. The research gathered 2,663 price quotes for 567 products in 15 markets across the city, allowing comparisons by store, neighborhood, and product type.
The data indicate a large dispersion of prices. While some items cost less than R$ 1, products such as fine cuts of meat exceed R$ 90 per kilo. The cheapest item found was a double-sided sponge, with an average of R$ 0,94, while the most expensive was beef filet mignon, averaging R$ 92,44 per kilo.
Most of the products surveyed fell into a middle range, between R$ 1 and R$ 60, reflecting the diversity of items analyzed, including food, cleaning products, and household items.

Difference between markets
When prices are grouped by establishment, important differences emerge among supermarkets. Atacadão do Capão Raso had the lowest average price among the markets surveyed, at R$ 6,69 per product. Next comes Supermercado Triunfo, with an average of R$ 6,91.

At the other end of the survey, some establishments recorded higher averages. Agrimar, in Tatuquara, had an average of R$ 16,70, the highest among markets with a significant number of products surveyed. Also appearing with higher values are Festval in Xaxim and Rede Master in Cachoeira.

In the case of Condor in Pinheirinho, however, the high average is explained by a particularity: only one product was surveyed, a straw broom costing R$ 59,90. This means the average value does not represent the market’s overall price set.
Differences between neighborhoods
When prices are analyzed by region of the city, the neighborhoods of Xaxim and Cachoeira do Barreiros show the highest averages, around R$ 12,68 and R$ 12,07, respectively.
The lowest averages were recorded in the neighborhoods of Tarumã and Hauer, at around R$ 9,41 and R$ 9,07.

The survey shows that neighborhoods with large wholesalers or discount chains tend to have lower average prices. Even so, comparisons should be made with caution, because some neighborhoods had few quotes recorded.
Meats lead the highest prices
Among the most expensive products, beef cuts predominate. The survey highlights the items with the highest average value:

Price of basic items
Among common products in the basic food basket, the average values found in the survey were:
- Parboiled rice: around R$ 4 per kilo
- Carioca beans: around R$ 6,30 per kilo
- Black beans: approximately R$ 4,06 per kilo
- Soybean oil (900 ml): around R$ 7,20
These items show relatively similar prices across markets, although there are still differences depending on the store and the brand.
