The first Slam das Gurias of 2026 already has a date. It will be on March 29, at Casa de Pandora, with free admission and open to the public. The battle opens the spoken word group's annual activities calendar; from that date on, the gatherings are always on the last Sunday of the month, at 15 h.
Participation is open and free for cis or trans women poets; no prior registration is necessary, just show up and give your name. In addition to the spoken word battle, the event has a moment called Open Mic, when works from other artistic forms can be presented. All audiences are welcome, regardless of gender or age, and they also pay nothing to appreciate the gurias' talent. The winners of the battle receive books donated by Freguesia dos Livros.
Slam Paraná
The group's battles throughout the year guarantee participation in the Paranaense Circuit of Spoken Word Championships, Slam Paraná. Whoever wins at least one monthly edition and then takes victory in the Slam das Gurias Final enters the Paraná qualifier for Slam Brasil. In 2025, the poet Trava da Fronteira was the champion of Slam Paraná and was a semifinalist in the national championship.
Word Athletes
Slam das Gurias was born in March 2019, organized by Gabriela Santos, Danielle Damasceno, and Jaqueline Mancebo, with the purpose of building spaces where women and trans people can not only participate, but take center stage with their voices in a field that is still mostly male. The inspiration came from the São Paulo–based Slam das Minas, which already placed women and trans people as protagonists in the poetry battles. According to the slam's creators, the collective was born as a political and cultural act: a direct response to the historical exclusion of those voices.
In celebration of seven years of resistance and of the affirmation of poetry as a tool for social transformation, the collective is launching a phrase that serves as identification and a kind of slogan: “word athlete”, which is present on products such as a line of Slam das Gurias T-shirts.
